Gardens by the Bay is a large, futuristic nature park in Singapore that combines innovative architecture with ecological design. Covering more than 100 hectares in the Marina Bay area, it is a flagship project of Singapore’s vision of becoming a “City in a Garden” and attracts millions of visitors each year.
Gardens by the Bay was developed as part of Singapore’s urban greening strategy and designed by Grant Associates and WilkinsonEyre. It is made up of three waterfront gardens—Bay South, Bay East, and Bay Central—each featuring its own themed landscapes. The park’s iconic Supertrees, which rise up to 50 meters, combine striking architectural design with environmental technology, including solar energy systems and rainwater harvesting.
The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are two climate-controlled conservatories that recreate different ecological environments. The Flower Dome simulates a cool, dry Mediterranean climate and showcases plants from arid regions around the world. The Cloud Forest, featuring a 35-meter indoor waterfall surrounded by mist, is home to tropical highland vegetation and offers visitors insights into biodiversity and climate change.
Gardens by the Bay is a strong example of sustainable engineering in practice. It uses energy-efficient glass panels, biomass boilers powered by horticultural waste, and solar energy collected by the Supertrees to reduce its environmental impact. The park also serves as an educational showcase for renewable energy and sustainable urban design.
Since opening, the park has become one of Singapore’s most photographed landmarks and an important part of the country’s global image. It regularly hosts light shows, festivals, and art installations, blending natural scenery with urban innovation and reinforcing Singapore’s identity as a modern eco-city.
